Free Yearly Roof Inspection Checklist

Informational

Roofing Inspection
Most homeowners don’t realize that once you have your new roof installed, it needs to be inspected yearly. The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) recommends to inspect your roof twice a year to catch any potential issues. They also recommend you hire a professional to do the inspection but we understand that some want to handle it themselves so Achten’s Quality Roofing has put together a checklist to help you out.

Safety First
Make sure that you secure your ladder at the top to prevent it from slipping and that it rests on solid, level ground. Your ladder should extend at least 3′ (feet) beyond the gutter and angled at least 1′ (foot) back from the house. Make sure to use both hands while climbing the ladder.

Inspecting the Shingles
Shingles that are buckling, curling, or blistering is a sign that they are near the end of their life span. Make sure to look in your gutters. Excessive amounts of shingle granules means that your shingles have thinned out and are no longer as effective. Another place to inspect is around chimneys or penetrations for loose materials.
